This pattern has been around for more than 30 years. My aunt used to make some of these dolls for us when we were children: little black men, dwarfs, animals, all with the same pattern. I think she got it from an old German lady who lived crossing the street, because now she gave me the pattern and it had some German words mixed. The pattern is really simple and easy to adapt to make different dolls, and you can add as many details as you wish: hair, beard, jacquard, stripes, animal ears, scarf, safety eyes, etc. So I thought it would be funny to adapt for Christmas decorations. Here it is:
Cast 32 stitches (2mm. needles). You can work flat or in the round with 4 short needles (8 stitches in each one). Then work:
- For the feet or shoes: 5 rounds with chosen color.
- For trousers or legs: 14 rounds with chosen color.
- For body or sweater: 12 rounds with chosen color.
- For face: 8 rounds with chosen color.
- For head or hat: work 8 rounds with chosen color, then start decreasing 4 stitches evenly in each round (knit 2 together to decrease). You can decrease more or less stitches for a shorter or longer hat. Continue until you have only 1 stitch, cut.
- If working flat, sew the doll in the back to obtain a tubular piece.
- Then stuff the head with cotton, pellet, etc. Then make some stitches to close the head and give shape.
- Stuff the body and make some stitches to make the arms.
- Stuff the legs and make some stitches in the middle to make the legs.
- Close sewing the feet.
- Embroider the face or attach safety eyes, beads, etc. Add any other features that you like.
- For Santa I made 5 rounds black, 14 rounds red, 2 rounds black, 10 rounds red, 8 rounds light brown, 3 rounds white, and red until finished. Added a pompon to the hat and a beard. Also glued some plastic bells in the hands.
Este patrón anda dando vueltas hace más de 30 años. Mi Tía solía hacernos algunos de estos muñecos cuando éramos chicos: negritos, duendes, animales, todos con el mismo patrón. Creo que se lo dió una viejita alemana que vivía cruzando la calle, porque ahora que me dió el patrón, tiene mezcladas algunas palabras en alemán. El patrón es realmente muy simple y fácil de adaptar para hacer muñecos diferentes, y se le pueden agregar tantos detalles como se quiera: pelo, barba, jacquard, rayas, orejas de animal, bufanda, ojitos plásticos, etc. Así que pensé que sería divertido adaptarlo para decoraciones navideñas. Aquí está:
Poner 32 puntos en las agujas (con agujas nº 2). Se puede trabajar plano o circular (con 4 agujas cortas con 8 puntos cada una). Luego hacer:
- Para los pies/zapatos: 5 vueltas con el color elegido.
- Para las piernas/pantalón: 14 vueltas con el color elegido.

- Para la cabeza/gorro: 8 vueltas con el color elegido, luego comenzar a disminuir repartido, 4 puntos por vuelta (para disminuir tejer 2 puntos juntos). Se puede disminuir más o menos puntos para obtener un gorro más grande o más pequeño. Seguir hasta tener 1 solo punto. Cerrar.
- Si se trabaja plano, coser por detrás para obtener una pieza tubular.
- Luego rellenar cabeza con algodón, vellón poliuretánico, etc. Luego hacer unas puntadas en el cuello para cerrar la cabeza y darle forma.
- Rellenar el cuerpo y hacer algunas puntadas para marcar los brazos.
- Rellenar las piernas y hacer algunas puntadas en el medio para marcar las piernas.
- Cerrar cosiendo los pies.
- Bordar la cara o agregar ojitos, cuentas, etc. Agregar otros detalles a gusto.
- Para el Papá Noel hice 5 vueltas en negro, 14 vueltas en rojo, 2 vueltas en negro, 10 en rojo, 8 en marrón claro, 3 en blanco, y rojo hasta terminar. Agregué un pompón al sombrero y una barba. También le pegué unas campanitas de plástico en las manos.
