Lace summer scarf - Chalina veraniega calada

This is my last project, and my first try with lace knitting. Made it with a skein of cotton instead of merino, because it is summer here. The lovely pattern I got from Ravelry (Madeira Cascade Kid Merino Lace Scarf by Melanie Lewis). Quite happy with the result!!!
Este es mi último proyecto, el primero que hago con tejidos calados.
Hecho con una madeja de algodón en vez de merino,
porque acá es verano.
Este hermoso patrón lo conseguí en Ravelry (Madeira Cascade

Easy Santa - Papá Noel Fácil

This pattern has been around for more than 30 years. My aunt used to make some of these dolls for us when we were children: little black men, dwarfs, animals, all with the same pattern. I think she got it from an old German lady who lived crossing the street, because now she gave me the pattern and it had some German words mixed. The pattern is really simple and easy to adapt to make different dolls, and you can add as many details as you wish: hair, beard, jacquard, stripes, animal ears, scarf, safety eyes, etc. So I thought it would be funny to adapt for Christmas decorations. Here it is:

Cast 32 stitches (2mm. needles). You can work flat or in the round with 4 short needles (8 stitches in each one). Then work:

• For the feet or shoes: 5 rounds with chosen color.
• For trousers or legs: 14 rounds with chosen color.
• For body or sweater: 12 rounds with chosen color.
• For face: 8 rounds with chosen color.
• For head or hat: work 8 rounds with chosen color, then start decreasing 4 stitches evenly in each round (knit 2 together to decrease). You can decrease more or less stitches for a shorter or longer hat. Continue until you have only 1 stitch, cut.
• If working flat, sew the doll in the back to obtain a tubular piece.

• Then stuff the head with cotton, pellet, etc. Then make some stitches to close the head and give shape.
• Stuff the body and make some stitches to make the arms.
• Stuff the legs and make some stitches in the middle to make the legs.
• Close sewing the feet.
• Embroider the face or attach safety eyes, beads, etc. Add any other features that you like.

• For Santa I made 5 rounds black, 14 rounds red, 2 rounds black, 10 rounds red, 8 rounds light brown, 3 rounds white, and red until finished. Added a pompon to the hat and a beard. Also glued some plastic bells in the hands.

Este patrón anda dando vueltas hace más de 30 años. Mi Tía solía hacernos algunos de estos muñecos cuando éramos chicos: negritos, duendes, animales, todos con el mismo patrón. Creo que se lo dió una viejita alemana que vivía cruzando la calle, porque ahora que me dió el patrón, tiene mezcladas algunas palabras en alemán. El patrón es realmente muy simple y fácil de adaptar para hacer muñecos diferentes, y se le pueden agregar tantos detalles como se quiera: pelo, barba, jacquard, rayas, orejas de animal, bufanda, ojitos plásticos, etc. Así que pensé que sería divertido adaptarlo para decoraciones navideñas. Aquí está:

Poner 32 puntos en las agujas (con agujas nº 2). Se puede trabajar plano o circular (con 4 agujas cortas con 8 puntos cada una). Luego hacer:

• Para los pies/zapatos: 5 vueltas con el color elegido.
• Para las piernas/pantalón: 14 vueltas con el color elegido.
• Para el cuerpo/sweater: 12 vueltas con el color elegido.
• Para la cara: 8 vueltas con el color elegido.
• Para la cabeza/gorro: 8 vueltas con el color elegido, luego comenzar a disminuir repartido, 4 puntos por vuelta (para disminuir tejer 2 puntos juntos). Se puede disminuir más o menos puntos para obtener un gorro más grande o más pequeño. Seguir hasta tener 1 solo punto. Cerrar.
• Si se trabaja plano, coser por detrás para obtener una pieza tubular.
• Luego rellenar cabeza con algodón, vellón poliuretánico, etc. Luego hacer unas puntadas en el cuello para cerrar la cabeza y darle forma.
• Rellenar el cuerpo y hacer algunas puntadas para marcar los brazos.
• Rellenar las piernas y hacer algunas puntadas en el medio para marcar las piernas.
• Cerrar cosiendo los pies.
• Bordar la cara o agregar ojitos, cuentas, etc. Agregar otros detalles a gusto.
• Para el Papá Noel hice 5 vueltas en negro, 14 vueltas en rojo, 2 vueltas en negro, 10 en rojo, 8 en marrón claro, 3 en blanco, y rojo hasta terminar. Agregué un pompón al sombrero y una barba. También le pegué unas campanitas de plástico en las manos.

Purchases - Compras

Last Friday I went to the annual encounter of ABA (Argentinian Embroiderers Association) and bought some lovely items: a big towel with cross stitch cloth on it, a piece of cloth to make a tablecloth with the Spanish Embroidery technique.... and some hand-made bobbins to make lace!!! Yes there was a woman there selling bobbins, crochet needles and some other hand made wood items for different crafts. There was another one that gives lessons on how to knit with some rare techniques I had never heard of (Miñardi, Crochenit...)

El viernes pasado fuí a la muestra anual de ABA (Asociación de Bordadoras Argentinas) y compré algunas cosas divinas: un toallón con una guarda para bordarlo punto cruz, una pieza de tela para hacer un mantel con la técnica de Bordado Español... y algunos bolillos hechos a mano, para hacer encaje!!! sí, había una señora vendiendo bollillos, agujas de crochet y y otros artículos de madera artesanales para diferentes manualidades. Había otra que da lecciones de como tejer con algunas técnicas raras que no había escuchado nunca (Miñardi, Crochenit...)

I´m participating in this Xmas Challenge. The challenge has 3 parts: October: Tree Ornaments, November: House Ornaments, December: Xmas Gifts. My entry for October is these lovely mini stockings that I found in this blog. They are a vice, now I can´t stop knitting them and now I have created some other designs that I will test tomorrow.

Estoy participando de este Desafío Navideño. El desafío tiene 3 partes: Octubre: adornos para el árbol, Noviembre: adornos para la casa, Diciembre: regalos de Navidad. Some time ago, looking for something else, I came across this wonderful video, by Canadian band Tricot Machine. It is made of hundreds of knitted squares. The result is amazing, very sweet and goes very well with the melancholic taste of the song. I hope you enjoy it.

Had some technical problems while downloading pictures to PC. Now they are solved and I can finally show you what I have been doing. Also I´m working in an original amigurumi pattern and its translation, the design is by my friend Irene but she asked me to help her while writting it down.

Tuve algunos problemas técnicos al descargar fotos a la PC. Ahora que están solucionados, finalmente les puedo mostrar lo que estuve haciendo. También estoy trabajando en un patrón original de amigurumi y su traducción, el diseño es de mi amiga Irene pero me pidió ayuda para ponerlo por escrito.

Swap and Challenge Update - Actualización del Intercambio y el Desafío

Due to some accident with the PC keyboard, last weekend I was unable to upload this post.
Last Saturday I went to bloggers meeting, as you can see in the previous post. There I met Celeste and she gave me the gift for the Friends Day Swap that she couldnt give me before. A lovely scarf, a perfume, some tea bags, a card, a little pouch for handkerchiefs, a notebook with a flowery design, and some yarn in a wonderful lilac color that I loved. Thanks so much Celeste!!!

Debido a un accidente con el teclado de la PC, el pasado fin de semana no pude subir este post.
El sábado fuí al encuentro de blogueras, como se ve en el post anterior. Allí me encontré con Celeste quien me dió el regalo del Intercambio del Día del Amigo que no me pudo dar antes. Una bufanda hermosa, un perfume, algunas bolsitas de té, una tarjeta, una bolsita para los pañuelos, un anotador con un diseño floral, y lana en un tono lila precioso. Muchísimas gracias Celeste!!!

Also forgot to post the entry for the Spiders Club August Challenge. I made a cat with some pieces of cloth I had, and the result is Lolo. But I ended up last in the voting :(

También me olvidé de postear mi trabajo para el Desafío de Agosto del Club de las Arañas. Hice un gato con pedazos de tela que tenía. El resultado es Lolo. Pero salí última en la votación.

Today it´s my birthday and just by coincidence I found this pattern that I had been looking for some months ago: Crocheted Gloves. The pattern is quite similar to what I could figure out from the sample glove I had. I want to share it with you, although I haven´t tested it yet.

Bookmarks - Señaladores - Bladwijzers

These bookmarks are not new but I realized I never uploaded them. I made them at different stages of my learning how to make bobbin lace. The blue one in particular is the one I like the most but never gets as stiff as it did the first time I ironed it :(. You can copy them right from the picture I think, or i can give you the patterns if you wish (they are quite classical models). I´m working in some other projects now but I´m a bit slow due to exams at University (only 2 subjects left at last!!!) Estos señaladores (o marcapáginas) no son nuevos pero me dí cuenta de que nunca los había subido. Los hice en distintos estadíos de mi aprendizaje de cómo hacer encaje de bolillos. En particular el azul es el que más me gusta pero nunca queda tan duro como la primera vez que lo planché :( . Pueden copiarlos directamente de la foto o pedirme los patrones si quieren (son modelos bastante clásicos). Estoy trabajando en algunos otros proyectos pero voy un poco lento debido a los exámenes en la Universidad (sólo me quedan 2 materias, al fin!!!)

Arrived!!! - Llegó!!!

Finally my Friends Day gift arrived in Chile. You can see it in Carolina´s Blog. I didnt post the complete project before because I didnt want to spoil the fun. But I confess I was a bit nervous about the delay.
Now I have to meet with Celeste, to receive my own gift from the swap, most probably next week when I finish exams.

Finalmente mi regalo del Día del Amigo llegó a Chile. Lo pueden ver en el Blog de Carolina. No lo posteé antes porque no quería arruinar la sorpresa. Pero confeso que estaba un poco nerviosa por la demora.
Ahora me tengo que encontrar con Celeste, para recibir mi propio regalo del intercambio, probablemente la semana que viene cuando termine mis exámenes.

Well, the swap has already finished. I sent a teapot cosy, a hand-painted teabox, some tea bags, a crazy yarn that is ideal for amigurumis, and a crochet magazine to my Chilean friend. I hope she likes it!!!
Bueno, terminó el intercambio. Le mandé un cubretetera, una caja de té pintada a mano, algunos saquitos de té, una lana rara ideal para amigurumis, y una revista de crochet a mi amiga chilena. Espero que le guste!!!

By the way, I´m very angry with "El Arte de Tejer" magazine. The teapot cosy was the 4th project (out of five!) that had mistakes in the pattern. If you knitted what the pattern said, you ended up with something that made no sense at all and didn´t look like the picture. So, again, I wrote a pattern of my own with the picture as a guide. And I completely redesigned the upper part (from crochet net to knitted dome). I don´t think I will buy any more issues :( -
Por cierto, estoy muy enojada con la revista "El Arte de Tejer". El cubretetera fué el 4º projecto (de cinco!) que tenía errores en el patrón. Si tejías lo que el patrón decía, quedaba algo sin sentido y que no se parecía a la foto. Así que, otra vez, reescribí el patrón yo misma con la foto como guía. Y rediseñé por completo la parte superior (de una red de crochet a un domo tejido). No creo que vuelva a comprarles ningún número más :(-

My friend Irene, who recently got hooked in the Amigurumi fever, also crocheted several little cuties. She gave one as a gift for friends´day to me (I chose the pear), and one to Mercedes (she chose the bunny that is based in an anime character - I forgot the name).
Mi amiga Irene, quien se enganchó recientemente en la fiebre Amigurumi, también tejió algunos muñequitos. Me regaló uno para el Día del Amigo (elegí la pera), y uno a Mercedes (que eligió el conejo basado en un personaje de animé, no recuerdo el nombre).

Easy crochet flowers (free pattern) - Flores crochet fáciles (patrón gratis)

Today I wanted to share this small flowers I created while looking for models for my swap project. They are easy and quick so they´re ideal for beginners, or as souvenirs, pins, or when you have to make a lot for some project but you have little time. I hope you like them!!! They are inspired in the real flowers in my garden :)

Hoy quiero compartir estas florcitas que creé cuando buscaba modelos para mi proyecto del intercambio. Son fáciles y rápidas así que son ideales para principiantes, o como souvenirs, prendedores, o cuando tenés que hacer muchas para algún proyecto pero tenés poco tiempo. Espero que les gusten!!! Están inspiradas en las flores reales de mi jardín :)

Heart shaped cookies - Galletitas con forma de corazón

Today I´ll give crochet and bobbin lace a break and offer you a simple recipe for these lovely cookies that your children will adore (or in my case, nephew and husband). This recipe is a heavily modified version of another one I had.
Ingredients: 4 tablespoons of baking flour (full) - 4 tablespoons of butter- 3 tablespoons of sugar (full) - 1 egg (sometimes I replace the egg with the juice of an orange and it´s ok too) - some red food coloring (I use about half a teaspoon of BLOCH Vegetable Food Colouring) - icing sugar or whatever you like for decoration. Procedure: Whisk butter and sugar together until you get a creamy substance. Add the egg, the flour, the food colouring and mix well until you have a firm consistency. If necessary, add some more flour. Put the dough in the fridge for half and hour. Then put some flour in the table, extend the dough with a wooden stick and cut the cookies about 3 mm thickwith a heart shaped pastry mold. (I dont know if "mold" is the correct word, if not, please forgive me. I´m sure you understand what I mean anyway) Bake for about 10-15 minutes until ready. Enjoy!

Hoy le doy un respiro al crochet y al encaje de bolillos y les ofrezco una receta fácil para estas adorables galletitas que van a adorar sus niños (o en mi caso, sobrino y marido). Esta receta es una versión muy modificada de otra que tenía. Ingredientes: 4 cucharadas llenas de harina leudante - 4 cucharadas de manteca - 3 cucharadas llenas de azúcar - 1 huevo (a veces lo reemplazo con el jugo de una naranja y queda bien) - un poco de colorante vegetal rojo (yo uso más o menos media cucharadita de té de Colorante Vegetal BLOCH) - lo que les guste para decorar (yo uso granas de colores y azúcar impalpable)
Procedimiento: batir el azúcar con la manteca hasta obtener una sustancia cremosa. Añadir la harina, el huevo y el colorante. Mezclar bien hasta obtener una consistencia firme. Si es necesario añadir un poco más de harina. Poner la masa en la heladera por media hora. Luego poner algo de harina en la mesa y estirar la masa con el palo de amasar. Cortar galletitas de unos 3 mm. de espesor con un cortante de pastas en forma de corazón. Hornear unos 10-15 minutos hasta que estén listas. Y a disfrutar!

Contagious Amigurumi fever - Fiebre Amigurumi contagiosa

Some time ago I fell ill with the Amigurumi fever. Yes, crocheting those little dudes is highly addictive and soon becomes pathological. I have exchanged patterns through forums, bookmarked the free patterns, bought others, and put hundreds of amis in my queue of future projects.
I told my friend Irka about my new interest. As someone that is interested in Japanese culture, manga, anime, and being an artist herself, she got interested too. About two weeks ago I taught her a couple basic crochet stitches because she wanted to crochet an ami of her own.
Voila! she is very talented and soon was able to reproduce 2 free patterns she found on the web, without my help and with some tutorials she found in YouTube. The result is great and here it is.
And what about me? well, working on Amigurumi pomeranian dog for another friend who doesn´t knit and dies for the dog she found in some free pattern page. And of course in my secret project for the swap, which is almost finished. And cooking a lot as usual.

Hace un tiempo me enfermé con la fiebre de los Amigurumis, Sí, tejer esos cositos es altamente adictivo y pronto se vuelve patológico. Intercambié patrones en foros, agregué a favoritos los patrones gratis, compré otros patrones, y puse cientos de Amis en mi lista de futuros proyectos.
Le conté a mi amiga Irka acerca de mi nuevo interés. Como ella se interesa en la cultura japonesa, el manga, animé, y dado que es una artista, también se interesó. Hace unas dos semanas le enseñé un par de puntos de crochet porque quería tejerse un ami ella misma.
Voilá! tiene mucho talento y rápidamente fue capaz de reproducir 2 patrones gratuitos que encontró en la web, sin mi ayuda y con algunos tutoriales que encontró en YouTube. El resultado es buenísimo y acá está.
Y yo? Bueno, trabajando en un amigurumi de un perro pomerania para otra amiga que no teje y se muere por este perrito que vió en una página de patrones gratis. Y por supuesto trabajando en el proyecto secreto para el intercambio, que está casi terminado. Y cocinando un montón como siempre.

A busy week - Una semana atareada

A really busy week, with many projects ending, and new ones starting.

Una semana realmente muy atareada, con muchos proyectos terminando y empezando nuevos.

1. DNA scarf finished (yeah the picture is really bad) - Bufanda ADN terminada (sí, la foto es malísima)

2a. Cross stitch bib for Martiniano (pattern from Otra Cosa Magazine)- Babero punto cruz para Martiniano (patrón de revista Otra Cosa).

2b. Cabled sweater for Martiniano (the pic was in the previous blog entry, no change except for some buttons added) - Sweater trenzado para Martiniano (la foto estaba en la entrada anterior del blog, ningún cambio aparte de la colocación de los botones).

2c. Booties for Martiniano - Escarpines para Martiniano

2d. Lacy scarf for Guadalupe, Martiniano´s little sister, or she will get very jealous! - Bufanda de encaje para Guadalupe, la hermanita de Martiniano, o se va a poner muy celosa!

3. Begun working on a bobbin lace piece from the book "Zehn Paare" - Comencé a trabajar en una pieza de encaje de bolillos del libro "Zehn paare".

4. Also begun a commission for sale: another cross stitch bib and 2 amigurumis for a friend - También empecé un encargo para vender: otro babero punto cruz y 2 amigurumis para una amiga.

5. And of course begun the project for the Friend´s Day Swap!!! but that´s a surprise....!!! Ssssshhh! - Y por supuesto comencé el proyecto para el intercambio del Día del Amigo!!! pero es una sorpresa....!!! Ssssshhh!

Winter - Invierno

Today winter begins and finds me working in a scarf. This model was named "the DNA scarf" by my Natural Sciences pupils at school.

Hoy comienza el invierno y me encuentra trabajando en una bufanda. Este modelo fue bautizado "la bufanda ADN" por mis alumnos de Ciencias Naturales de la escuela.

I´m also working in some presents for my best friend Carolina, who was about to have a baby; unfortunately he was born a month before date (past Thursday) so they´re still unfinished...

También estoy trabajando en regalos para mi mejor amiga Carolina, que estaba por tener un bebé;
lamentablemente nació un mes antes (el jueves pasado) y todavía están inconclusos...

And I finally took a pic of one of my cross stitch houses - this one I gave to my mother-in-law.


Y finalmente tomé una foto de una de mis casitas de punto cruz - esta se la dí a mi suegra.
